Designing Learning Solutions

Once the Needs Analysis has been carried out the next stage will be to design the learning solution. this is easier said than done as several things need to be taken into consideration:

  • Specify the objectives for the learning solution

  • Identify content for the learning solution that will meet the objectives

  • Decide on the methods to use to deliver the solution

  • Devise and test activities / exercises / role plays that will be used during the training

  • Prepare the material.

Very often the designer / trainer will subconsciously use their own style of learning when decide which methods to use. This is wrong as it means that a percentage of the learners on the event may not suit that style. It is therefore very important for a event designer to think about the various ways that people learn to ensure that everybody can take something away from the event.

People learn best when they use a mixture of three dimensions -

  • Psychomotor Learning - learning by Doing

  • Affective Learning - learning by understanding

  • Cognitive Learning - learning by storing, organising and processing information

It is also important to remember the individuals learning styles to ensure that they are catered for (Honey P. and Mumford A, ‘Manual of Learning Styles’, 1982).

  • Activists

  • Theorists

  • Pragmatists

  • Reflectists

Rubus Associates pride ourselves on ensuring that the best learning experience is designed that will cater for all of the learners who will participate. All of our learning solutions are designed with the learners in mind.
